The Settlement, Saksun, Faroe Islands (IMG0650)

The tiny village of Saksun lies to the Northwest coast of Streymoy in the Faroe Islands. Surrounded by high ground of Hvalvík and Streymnes it is a picturesque setting. In 1600 the mouth of the fjord became blocked with sand during a heavy storm and cut off access except at high tide for shallow boats. The village now has a population of approximately 14 people.
